FAQ's
Video is shot using the Action Cam III bullet cam mounted to the frame of the bicycle. The AC3 is Viosport's top of the line CCD camera boasting 520 lines of resolution (DVD quality). The camera is wired to the Sony DCR-HC30 mini DV camcorder as a high quality recording device.
Since the camera is hard mounted to the bicycle, you view every motion that the bike undergoes whether it be vertical, horizontal or roll. The vibration from the road is transmitted to the camera, however, due to sophisticated image stabilization software, your ride is smooth and silky.
Because of this realistic perspective, you will feel like you're on the road and experience the sensation of movement. Use caution if training on rollers, your body will want to compensate for the virtual motion and you'll come right off!
This is a staple training aspect of these videos, so, go out and buy a heart rate monitor. It's important to know your max heart rate. There are many techniques to finding your max heart rate, you may want to consult your doctor, most can help you find this safely and effectively. Once your max heart rate is established, you will be able to easily follow the intensity meter provided on each video.
The intensity meter is color coded to help you quickly know what zone you should be training in be it in the weight loss zone, aerobic zone, anaerobic zone or red zone. Each zone is based on a percentage of your maximum effort.
No Color = below 70% (weight loss)
Green = 70% - 79% of max (aerobic)
Yellow = 80% - 89% of max (anaerobic)
Red = 90% - 100% of max (red zone)
Be aware that the difficulty of each video is greatly dependent on the time spent in each zone.
At the top of the intensity meter is your actual percent of max target. Percent of max is calculated as your actual heart rate divided by your max. This value can be used to challenge yourself further by teaching your body how to precisely regulate effort. This is an EXTREMELY valuable skill for time trials and triathletes.
The videos contain a gearing guide to help you select the right gear for the conditions. In other words, if you're climbing in the video, the gear ratio increases for increased resistance. Throughout the video, you will be balancing your heart rate with the gear ratio constantly. This allows for a dynamic and realistic experience!
Achieving a heart rate when spinning is entirely different from that same heart rate wile grinding a big hard gear. These challenges help diversify your workout greatly. You may choose to ignore the gear ratio guide and instead train using specific cadences if you have a cadence sensor on your bike. These choices are dependent on your training goals.
This character is available on many videos (not all) and is only applicable to road rides. The cycling position dude will pop up on the screen for 3 seconds or more encouraging you to change position on the bike. When you're grinding up a hill in a big gear, the character will appear on the screen out of saddle and will remain until he sits in the saddle. Positions include, relaxed, on the hoods position, aggressive, in the drops position, fast, in a tuck position, and working, out of the saddle position.
Use these positions to diversify your workout as well as train parts of your body that aren't targeted when you're sitting only. Changing positions helps to reduce uncomfortable fatigue and improves overall cycling strength.

Each video has GPS data that has been used to show actual position on mapping software. The staple program used is TopoFusion (http://www.topofusion.com) to present the position in real time as it relates to the video. In other words, superimposed on the video is a map that shows the location in real time of the cyclist.
This is a great feature as it helps you to locate where the video is shot in real time. It also helps you to understand where you are with respect to the end of the ride, hills, or other geologic and geographic features
