While Spinning and cycling share similar types of motions, the dynamics of Spinning are considerably different from riding a bike either indoors or out. The heavy flywheel of a spin bike is tough to accelerate and tough to slow down, whereas a bike on a trainer, the acceleration is tough, but, the resistance is constant regardless of how fast the wheel is turning and once you stop pedaling, the wheel stops moving. Whereas on a bicycle when simulating a climb, you provide your body weight to drive the pedal down, on spin trainer, unless the tension is very high, like walking down a flight of stairs, you have to use your strength to slow your descent. The differences in technique and muscle usage make Spinning and cycling a complimentary way to cross train. Cycling and Spinning enthusiasts enjoy crossing over into each sport to help strengthen their sport of interest while obtaining better all-around conditioning. These indoor cycling videos are a fantastic training aid for cyclists and spinners alike, however, the bulk of them tend to cater to the cyclist with frequent rapid gear changes to increase or decrease resistance. Also, cadence values are lower than might be expected when spinning. The gear ratio guide does not define the resistance specifically but may be interpreted using the guide below: Resistance guide. Due to popularity of these as spinning videos in spin classes, gyms or Spinning workouts at home, the videos produced after 2/28/2010 have adopted a resistance value on a scale of 1 to 10. Here is a screen shot. As an instructor, you want to accommodate both the cycling enthusiast as well as your Spinning base; this is why CVO provides a means to customize any scenic video with any specific overlays like cadence, heart rate, gear ratio, resistance, etc. You can design the workout routine any way you want! If you want the routine to synch with the video, use the default tools, but, if you want to mix it up and have graphical information on screen to compliment your custom routine, we can do that too. Or, if you simply want the video with no tools and your name in the bottom corner of the screen, not a problem!
